How can I use art to reflect the emotions and experiences people face throughout their childhood and the show the impact it can have as they grow older? [blue face] How can a negative environment mentally impact a child and change the way they react to negative situations in the future? [magnifying glass] How can I use shadow to show how toxicity surrounding us can ingulf us an change us? [cut up face] How can I use color to show how we often reflect on the parts of our lives that changed us/became a part of us? In each of my pieces I tried to use color to tell the story, often using warm tones to represent youth and nostalgia, and cool toes to represent toxicity and present times. I experimented with different materials, like yarn [purple snake] or articles about the effects of different environments on a child’s cognitive development [blue face], to help tie my pieces closer to the questions they’re answering. I experimented with different marks [cut up face] to represent childhood and the way our childhood becomes a part of us, even as we change.
